L’anno 2023 sarà dedicato in modo speciale a Santa Teresa di Lisieux. In occasione del 150° anniversario della sua nascita, il 2 gennaio, l’Unesco ha deciso di inserirla nella sua lista di 60 personalità di grande rilievo per tutta l’umanità i cui anniversari vengono celebrati in modo speciale. Nello stesso anno si celebrano anche i 100 anni dalla sua beatificazione, avvenuta il 29 aprile 1923. Questi anniversari sono motivo di gioia e di gratitudine. Allo stesso tempo, suscitano nuove domande sul significato della figura di questa Santa e invitano a un’interpretazione aggiornata o forse a una rilettura dei suoi scritti e della loro percezione nella Chiesa e in altri contesti.
Per tale motivo la Pontificia Facoltà Teologica – l’Istituto di Spiritualità Teresianum invita gli studiosi di teologia e di altre discipline al Seminario di approfondimento dedicato al tema della santità alla luce dell’esperienza di Teresa di Gesù Bambino. Il discorso sulla santità, tema classico della spiritualità, diventa sempre più una sfida: come parlarne in modo adeguato, fedele al Vangelo, al mondo di oggi? Gaudete et Exultate ci insegna ad affacciarci alla questione della santità e parlare della sua realizzazione nella vita quotidiana, negli ambienti dove si svolge l’esistenza di tanti uomini e donne, possibile anche in mezzo all’ordinario, perfino in mezzo alla debolezza o la fragilità.
In questo contesto, superate le visioni classiche circa la sua santità, proprio l’esperienza di Teresa di Lisieux si presenta come un modello paradigmatico della santità cristiana da mostrare al mondo di oggi: comunione piena con Cristo che va oltre i limiti, le fragilità, le ferite e le vulnerabilità della Santa.
L’obiettivo del seminario è quello di offrire ai ricercatori l’opportunità di discutere i risultati delle proprie ricerche. Questo comprende sia i temi storici riguardanti diverse tappe e diversi modi di interpretare la figura e gli scritti di Santa Teresa di Lisieux, come anche nuovi approcci e contesti in cui la sua santità potrebbe acquisire importanza.
Call for Papers
Le bozze di presentazione sul tema sopra descritto possono essere inviate via e-mail a strzyz@teresianum.net entro il 19 marzo 2023. Le bozze presentate non devono superare i 4000 caratteri e devono essere scritte in italiano, in inglese o in francese. Si prega di inviare anche un breve CV.
La decisione di accettazione verrà comunicata entro il 3 aprile.
In una sezione libera è possibile presentare i propri progetti di ricerca (p.e. dottorato) dedicati a Santa Teresa di Lisieux che non rientrano nell’area tematica sopra descritta. Anche le bozze di presentazione per questa sezione non devono superare i 4000 caratteri.
Per ogni contributo accettato sul tema, saranno riservati 45 minuti del seminario (30 minuti di presentazione / 15 minuti di discussione). Nella sezione libera sono previsti 20 minuti per ogni partecipante (10 minuti di presentazione / 10 minuti di discussione).
La lingua di scambio durante il seminario è l’italiano. Tuttavia, è possibile fare la propria presentazione in inglese o in francese.

Research Seminar: Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, Paradigm of Modern Sanctity?
June 8th-9th, 2023
The year 2023 will be dedicated in a special way to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of her birth, the 2nd of January 2023, the Unesco decided to include her in its list of 60 personalities of outstanding importance to all mankind whose anniversaries will be celebrated in a special way. In the same year, the 100th anniversary of her beatification – which took place on April 29th 1923 – will also be celebrated. These anniversaries are a reason for joy and gratitude. At the same time, they raise new questions about the significance of this Saint and call for an updated interpretation or perhaps a rereading of her writings and the perception thereof in the Church and in other contexts.
For precisely this reason, the Pontifical Faculty of Theology – Institute of Spirituality Teresianum is inviting scholars of theology and of other disciplines to a Research Seminar dedicated to the theme of holiness in the light of the experience of Thérèse of the Child Jesus. The topic of sanctity, a classic theme of spirituality, is becoming more and more a challenge: how can one speak of it adequately, in a way that is faithful to the Gospel, to the world today? Gaudete et Exultate teaches us to address the issue of holiness and speak of its realization in daily life, in those environments where the existence of so many men and women take place, possible in the midst of the ordinary, even in the midst of weakness or fragility.
In such a context, while overcoming the classical views regarding her holiness, the very same experience of Thérèse of Lisieux presents itself as a paradigmatic model of Christian sanctity that must be shown to today’s world: full communion with Christ that goes beyond the limits, fragility, wounds and vulnerability of the Saint.
The aim of the Seminar is to offer researchers the opportunity to discuss the results of their research. This includes both historical themes concerning different stages and different ways of interpreting the figure and writings of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, as well as new approaches and contexts in which her sanctity could acquire importance.
Call for Papers
The drafts of presentation on the topic described above can be sent by e-mail to strzyz@teresianum.net by March 19th 2023. The drafts submitted must not exceed 4000 characters and must be written either in Italian, English, or French. The researchers are kindly requested to send, as well, a brief CV.
The acceptance results will be communicated by April 3rd.
In the free section it will be possible to present one’s own research projects (e.g. doctorate) dedicated to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux which do not fall within the thematic area described above. Draft submissions for this section should also not exceed 4000 characters.
45 minutes of the Seminar will be reserved (30 minutes of presentation/ 15 minutes of discussion) for each contribution on the topic that will have been accepted. In the free section, 20 minutes are foreseen for each participant (10 minutes of presentation/ 10 minutes of discussion).
The language utilized during the Seminar will be Italian. However, it will be possible to make your presentation also in English or in French.
